Forthright Cafe ATX

When I first started visiting Austin, I tried to cram in as much eating as possible so that I could try out each place I read about through Austin food blogs or liked pictures of on Instagram. I quickly gave that up in between finding places I wanted to return to every time and realizing just how much eating I would really have to do to try each and every food joint Austin had to offer.
On this trip in particular, mom was letting me borrow her borrowed DSLR to take my food pictures. I needed somewhere cute. Somewhere that had brunch complete with my go to "all white with marble table tops" aesthetic. It needed to have food served with the presentation in mind and there was no time for reservations. So I scrolled through one of my trusty ATX food bloggers Insta profiles (@atasteofkoko) until I came across Forthright Cafe.
It's a new cafe in Austin, located at the intersection of Brazos and Cesar Chavez in the San Jacinto Center, downtown but tucked away near the river. Their patio was overhung by leafy branches of trees and was completely full when we stopped by for Saturday brunch.
I ordered a vanilla latte made with Sightglass coffee and the Quinoa Brulee.
Mom had the kale salad and the chia pudding with a glass of peach iced tea and Tyler had his go-to dish, the chicken and waffles.

They both honestly ordered better than I did, with the exception of mom's Kale Salad.
The highlights for me were the latte, the chia pudding, and the caramel butter served with the Chicken and Waffles. The chia pudding was SO creamy. I've never had that kind of textural success when making chia pudding at home and the caramel butter paired with their light and fluffy waffle was out of this world good. My oatmeal wasn't quite as creamy as I had hoped for and while the bruleed bananas made for a good picture, they were a tad over bruleed for my taste.
I thoroughly enjoyed the aesthetic of Forthright, along with the food, and would definitely recommend it for an easy weekend brunch downtown.

As far as the picture taking went, I could not for the life of me figure out how to take a picture WITHOUT the flash, let alone do anything but point and shoot! Here's to learning gradually...
